Former National Bank of Georgia President Roman Gotsiridze predicts that Nana Keinishvili, who is under investigation over alleged illegal business activities, will voluntarily resign from the National Bank’s Council rather than face impeachment.

Speaking on BMGTV’s program Tsertili, Gotsiridze said he believes Keinishvili will be asked to step down to avoid further controversy. He argued that impeachment is unlikely because it would require her to appear before Parliament and go through a lengthy procedure.

Gotsiridze also questioned the role of non-executive members of the National Bank’s Council, saying they receive salaries of GEL 13,800 despite having little real influence over decisions.

He said the allegations against Keinishvili could indicate a conflict of interest and potential official misconduct if it is confirmed that she had private business interests in a sector she was responsible for regulating.

Gotsiridze further criticized the National Bank’s institutional independence, comparing the current controversy with the case involving former prosecutor Otar Partskhaladze and the bank’s decision on sanctions enforcement. He argued that the bank’s reputation and public trust in the financial sector have been damaged, warning that its loss of independence poses risks to financial stability.
