National Bank of Georgia (NBG) President Natia Turnava has welcomed Nana Keinishvili’s decision to resign from the central bank’s board, saying Parliament is expected to review her resignation request in the near future.

Keinishvili is under investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office over alleged unlawful involvement in business activities. Turnava said the NBG had conducted an internal documentary review but noted that legislation does not allow central bank employees to investigate board members. The bank referred the matter to prosecutors, who are conducting an investigation.

Turnava added that Keinishvili had been excluded from supervisory board meetings while the matter was being clarified to avoid further questions.

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said on October 26 that Keinishvili’s departure process complied with legal procedures, although he could not provide details or confirm whether her formal resignation had been submitted.

Under Georgian law, an NBG board member may resign by submitting a written statement to the Speaker of Parliament at least two months before the intended resignation date. The member is considered to have resigned from the date specified in the statement.
