National Forestry Agency Reports 455 Cases of Illegal Logging in Georgia in 2025

The National Forestry Agency reported that 455 cases of illegal logging and timber transportation were detected across Georgia from January to September 2025.

In September alone, authorities uncovered 37 cases, seizing up to 116 cubic meters of illegally harvested timber of various species. Confiscated timber is being stored in the agency’s designated “business yards.”

Regional breakdown of the September violations:

  • Imereti: 2 cases
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti: 8 cases
  • Guria: 8 cases
  • Kvemo Kartli: 12 cases
  • Kakheti: 5 cases
  • Shida Kartli: 2 cases

From January through September, the total volume of timber stored in business yards reached 1,209 cubic meters. Additionally, the agency detected 54 cases of arbitrary seizure of State Forest Fund lands nationwide during the same period, according to the press release.
