National Forestry Agency Uncovers 72 Forest-Related Violations in June

Georgia's National Forestry Agency detected 72 environmental violations across the country in June 2026, including 57 cases of illegal logging and timber transportation.

According to the agency, inspectors seized up to 39 cubic meters of illegally harvested firewood and timber, which was transferred to the agency's storage facilities. Five cases contained signs of criminal offenses and have been referred to investigative authorities.

The highest number of illegal logging cases was recorded in Samtskhe-Javakheti (15), followed by Mtskheta-Mtianeti (12) and Kvemo Kartli (10). Additional violations were reported in Imereti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Kakheti, Guria, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, and Shida Kartli.

The agency also identified 14 cases of illegal occupation of state forest land in several regions and uncovered one unregistered sawmill in Mtskheta-Mtianeti. Overall, the National Forestry Agency has recorded 391 cases of illegal logging nationwide during the first six months of 2026.
