In 2023, the share of loss-making organizations in Armenia reached 19% (approximately one in six companies), marking a 3.7 percentage point increase compared to 2022, according to data from the country's Statistical Committee.

As reported by banksnews.am, the most challenging situation was observed in the water supply and waste management sector, where half of the enterprises reported losses. In the agricultural sector, this figure stood at 36.3%, while in culture and entertainment, it reached 31%.

The mining industry experienced a significant rise in loss-making entities, increasing by 11.3 percentage points to 28.8%. On the other hand, the most notable improvement was recorded in public administration and defense, where the proportion of loss-making organizations dropped by 41.7 percentage points to 25%.

The most resilient sectors included construction (11.3% loss-making companies), hospitality and food services (13.3%), and the service sector (16.9%).

Experts attribute the increase in loss-making enterprises to the stringent tax policies of recent years, which have created additional challenges for businesses.
