With funding from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a new regional non-hazardous waste disposal facility has been built in Kvemo Kartli. The facility will serve five municipalities: Tsalka, Tetritskaro, Marneuli, Bolnisi, and Dmanisi.
According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the modern facility will begin operations in May 2026. A recent working meeting focused on ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of both the waste transfer stations and the new disposal site.
Participants in the meeting included representatives from the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia, the Ministry of Regional Development, the Kvemo Kartli Governor, and mayors of the regional municipalities.
As of January 20, 2026, service contracts between local governments and the facility have been signed under the Government Resolution N2283. The new facility, together with the waste transfer network, will support the introduction of a modern, environmentally compliant waste management system in the region.
