No One Will Be Allowed to Hinder Hydropower Projects for Personal Gain - Kobakhidze

ირაკლი კობახიძე

GD Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said there have been cases when specific individuals deliberately obstructed the construction of small hydropower plants for their own subjective interests, even attempting to secure stakes in such projects. Speaking at an event marking the Day of the Energy Worker, he emphasized that such practices amounted to sabotage against the country’s energy development.

According to the Prime Minister, the government’s approach will be “completely principled,” ensuring that no one benefits at the expense of state and private sector interests. “We will not allow anyone to be favored at the expense of state interests and the interests of the private sector in the implementation of such important projects. New practices will be established in all directions, and constant consultations with experts and the private sector will help shape the most effective energy policy,” Kobakhidze said.

He stressed that energy development is crucial for Georgia’s economic stability and sovereignty. GD Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s ambition to make Georgia fully self-sufficient in electricity, which he described as vital not only for economic progress but also for strengthening state sovereignty.

Kobakhidze also thanked Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, her deputy Inga Pkhaladze, and all energy professionals for their contribution to the sector. “Under their leadership, we have already implemented significant changes in a short period, and I am confident that even greater results will follow. Together, we will ensure Georgia becomes a self-sufficient country in electricity,” he said.
