Irakli Kobakhidze is pleased that Tbilisi remains an important center of international dialogue in the region. The Prime Minister stated this during his speech at the opening of the 16th Regional Forum on Sustainable Development in Tbilisi.
As he noted, the strategic visions developed within the framework of the forum will make a significant contribution to shaping a stronger, safer and sovereign future for Georgia.
“I am pleased that Tbilisi is continuing its long-standing tradition by hosting the 16th Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, which has grown into a major global platform. It is important that our capital remains a key center for international dialogue in the region.
In recent years, the world has faced a series of complex global challenges, and against this backdrop, the main theme of this year’s forum—“Sustainable Development for Socio-Economic Well-Being”—is particularly relevant. At a time of rising geopolitical tensions, when major powers often pressure smaller states to choose sides, the role of diplomacy becomes even more essential.
It is both natural and necessary that the forum addresses the most pressing geopolitical and security issues. Such discussions are fundamental in identifying paths toward strengthening national security and ensuring long-term economic resilience.
The forum’s thematic panels are closely aligned with our strategic priorities, including strengthening sovereignty, enhancing energy security, highlighting the role of large hydropower projects in energy independence, developing human capital, fostering innovation, and advancing sustainable urban development.
The peace platform continues to hold a central place in this agenda. Without lasting peace and stability, sustainable progress and prosperity are not possible.
For us, development goes beyond strong economic growth indicators. We believe that real progress requires peace, security, quality education, innovation, and people-centered policies that create tangible well-being for both current and future generations.
