Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze says there is no direct correlation between increased fines and a reduction in traffic or other violations. Speaking at a briefing, he noted that recent statistical data does not support the assumption that higher penalties automatically lead to improved compliance.
Kobakhidze added that, since increased fines place a financial burden on citizens, the government is now considering revising them downward in cooperation with Parliament. He said the review is based on observations from roughly the past year, which showed no significant behavioral impact from the stricter penalties.
According to the Prime Minister, this finding has brought the issue of potential fine reductions onto the policy agenda. He emphasized that any changes would be discussed jointly with lawmakers and relevant institutions.
The statement follows earlier comments from parliamentary majority leader Irakli Kirtskhalia, who said the ruling team is working with agencies on possible amendments to traffic regulations.
