Zurab Lalazashvili, Founder and Managing Partner at BDO Georgia responded to the adaption of the legislation On the Transparency of Foreign Influence in its first reading by the Parliament of Georgia earlier today. He made the statement on his personal Facebook page.

"Now it makes no sense, which law did the parliament vote on (although it is clear that it is a Russian law).

Today, we have parliament members in the parliament who can go against the interests of Georgia, despite the protest of a large part of our community and partner countries.

Despite that, the adoption of this law could pose a threat to our European perspective, yet 76 deputies were found in the parliament for whom it means nothing, they were still ready to take such a step due to completely unknown arguments or goals.

This is a very big threat to our state. Today the choice is being made between Europe or Russia. And in order to stop moving towards Russia at such a fast pace, the only way out is for European Union to grant us the status of a candidate member in an accelerated manner in response to the public's request (and not because of the government's implementation of the plan)", Zurab Lalazashvili posted.
