Number of consumer complaints in the first quarter of 2025 exceeds the same period of the previous year by 40% - GCCA

In the first quarter of 2025, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) registered 318 consumer protection-related complaints, while the number of inquiries received via phone calls totaled 943. Notably, the volume of complaints submitted increased by 40% compared to the same period in 2024.

During the reporting period, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) identified 19 violations of consumer rights in 40 cases.

Due to non-compliance with obligations imposed by the GCCA, 13 traders were fined in 25 cases, with total penalties amounting to 13 573 GEL.

For consumer protection, 44 commitment agreements were signed in 49 cases, where traders committed to modifying their internal business policies and restoring the rights of affected consumers who suffered due to unfair business practices.

In 2025, 72% of the applications received by the consumer refer to online trading, and 28% to the case of purchasing the item on the spot. According to regions, Tbilisi continues to lead with 78%, followed by Imereti with 5%, Adjara 4%, Kakheti 4%, and other regions.

Based on three-month data, the demand for a refund is 112, the repair of a defective item is 83, 63 for restoring the right to a defective service, 24 for items delivered within the specified time frame, 15 related to the prohibition of misleading practices, and the rest is 21.

According to statistics, 74% is the wholesale and retail sector, transport and warehousing 13%, and other activities 13%.
