According to consumer rights protection statistics, in January 2025, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) registered 109 applications, with a total of 430 incoming calls. Notably, the number of applications increased by 80% compared to January of the previous year.
- The GCCA confirmed 3 violations of the rights of consumers groups in 5 cases.
- Three traders were fined in 9 cases for failing to comply with GCCA obligations.
- The Agency signed 10 commitment agreements in favor of the consumer in 10 cases. This means the traders have made an obligation - to change its internal policy and to restore the rights of those consumers who allegedly suffered damages due to the trader’s policy in the past.
In 2025, 66% of the applications received by the consumer refer to online trading, and 34% in-store purchases. According to regions, Tbilisi continues to lead with 78%, followed by Imereti (6%), Kakheti (6%), Adjara (4%), Shida Kartli (2%), and other regions.
According to the received applications, the demand for a refund is 34, the repair or return of a defective item is 29, 26 for restoring the right to a defective service, 10 for items delivered within the specified time frame, and the rest is 10.
As of one-month data, 70% of cases were related to the wholesale and retail trade sector, 16% to transport and warehousing, 4% to arts, entertainment, and leisure, and 10% to other activities.
