Number Of Pensioners In Georgia Up By 26 Thousand In 2024

During 2024, the number of age-based pensioners in Georgia increased by 26 thousand (3%) and reached 864 thousand, which was 23.3% of Georgia's total population.

The growth in the number of age-based pensioners has accelerated in recent years. While between 2010-2015 it increased by an average of 8 thousand annually, in 2016-2020 by an average of 15 thousand annually, and in 2020-2024 it grew by 20 thousand annually. Moreover, the increase in the number of pensioners peaked in 2023, reaching 29.8 thousand.

The pension provision budget is also growing; in 2024, 3.9 billion GEL was allocated for it, which was 480 million GEL or 14% more compared to 2023, with the main component of the increase being the growth of age-based pensions in the country.

For 2025, the age-based pension budget is set at 4.5 billion GEL, which represents an annual increase of 568 million GEL or 14.5%.

As of 2025, the pension package in the country is distributed as follows:

* The pension for pensioners aged 70 and above increased by 35 GEL and is set at 450 GEL. For the same category of pensioners in highland settlements, the pension will be almost 540 GEL;

* The pension for persons under 70 increased by 20 GEL and is set at 335 GEL. In highland settlements, it will amount to 400 GEL.

Over the last 10 years, the number of age-based pensioners in Georgia has increased by 167 thousand.
