Nunisi Forest Hotel and Spa is awaiting the National Agency of Mineral Resources to relaunch an auction for a water-use license, holding up a planned $5–8 million investment. Co-founder Irma Daushvili told BMGTV that the company applied to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture in March but has yet to receive a response.
Located in the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, the resort is built around Nunisi’s therapeutic mineral water. Daushvili founded the complex in 2002, while its 20-year water license expired in 2022. The company says the license has neither been renewed nor put up for a new auction.
Daushvili said infrastructure remains another challenge. The 28-kilometer access road is nearing completion, with 24 kilometers already asphalted, but the resort still faces unstable electricity supply, a lack of gasification and limited internet access. She said the road’s completion will make the resort more accessible from Tbilisi and Kutaisi.
“If the license issue is resolved, we are talking about an investment of around $5–8 million,” Daushvili said. She added that the company needs a clear response from the state to move forward with investment and further develop the resort.
