Oil transportation via BTC for 9 months. increased by 4.5%, transit – by 6.7%

The volume of oil pumped through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline in January-September 2023 amounted to 22, 665.1 thousand tons, which is 4.5% higher than the figure for 9 months of 2022, the Interfax-Azerbaijan agency was told in State Committee on Statistics.

In January-September 2023, 76.1% of the total volume of oil transported along the main oil pipelines of Azerbaijan was pumped through the BTC oil pipeline.

According to the department, 83.1% of all oil or 18, 844.8 thousand tons (an increase of 4.1% - IF) transported via the BTC in January-September 2023 came from Azerbaijani oil.

The share of transit oil from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan transported via the BTC in January-September 2023 amounted to 16.9% of the total pumping volume or 3,820.3 thousand tons (an increase of 6.7% - IF).

The volume of oil pumped through the BTC pipeline in 2022 amounted to 29,749.6 thousand tons (an increase of 12.6%), including transit oil - 5, 103.9 thousand tons (an increase of 41.8%).

Currently, the BTC oil pipeline transports oil from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field block and condensate from the Shah Deniz field, as well as oil from SOCAR. The BTC also transports oil from a number of other countries in the Caspian Sea region.

The length of the BTC oil pipeline is 1,768 thousand km, of which in Azerbaijan - 443 km, Georgia - 249 km, Turkey - 1,076 thousand km. The pipeline's throughput capacity exceeds 50 million tons of oil per year.

Shareholders of BTC Co. are: bp (30.1%); SOCAR (25%); MOL (8.9%); Equinor (8.71%); TPAO (6.53%); ENI (5%); Itochu (3.4%); ExxonMobil (2.5%); INPEX (2.5%), TotalEnergies (5%) and ONGCVidesh (2.36%).
