The demolition of the old vehicle bridge on Tetri Dukani Street over the Digmuri River and construction of a new one is set to begin, Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze announced at today’s municipal government meeting. The bridge connects Marshal Gelovani Avenue with the Digomi and Vashlijvari neighborhoods.
According to the mayor, a detailed study conducted by specialists revealed that the existing bridge is structurally damaged and cannot be rehabilitated.
“The existing crossing connects Digomi with Vashlijvari. It is a three-span metal vehicle bridge, 64 meters long. The project cost is GEL 4 million. Works will be carried out by the City Infrastructure Development Service and are expected to be completed in about five months,” Kaladze said.
He apologized in advance to residents for any inconvenience during the construction.
“Vehicle traffic will be fully restricted within the construction area. We will provide detailed information on alternative routes later. Naturally, there will be some discomfort during the works, and I thank citizens in advance for their patience,” he added.
The Tbilisi City Hall had planned the bridge’s rehabilitation in 2025 as well and announced a GEL 4.7 million tender in August, which was later halted.
