First Deputy Minister of Finance Giorgi Kakauridze confirmed that optimization processes in Georgia’s state-owned enterprises have affected more than 1,000 people. Speaking to BMG, he noted that the figure includes both employees who were laid off and vacancies that were canceled during restructuring.

According to GD Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, optimization measures have generated savings of more than 700 million GEL. Kakauridze explained that these savings came mainly from personnel reductions, procurement, and administrative expenses.

Kobakhidze already spoke about this. Optimization covered staff reductions, adjustments in procurement requirements, as well as administrative costs. In some cases, planned procurement volumes were reduced after tenders were reviewed in detail, which led to lower costs,” Kakauridze said.

He added that while the total number of affected employees exceeds 1,000, the figure could be even higher. “Some were fired, others were planned to be hired later, but those vacancies were canceled after the optimization,” Kakauridze clarified.
