Georgia’s Parliament has passed amendments to the Law on Vine and Wine in a third and final reading, introducing new regulations for wine production, certification, and quality control.
Under the changes, the definition of a “small winery” has been revised, with the maximum annual production threshold reduced from 40,000 liters to 25,000 liters.
The law also replaces the term “home wine” with “natural wine,” defined as wine produced without the use of systemic pesticides, herbicides, or other synthetic chemical substances.
In addition, labeling will become mandatory for certified alcoholic beverages, with the National Wine Agency overseeing the process. All categories of wine intended for export or domestic sale will be subject to mandatory organoleptic testing, except for wines classified as “natural wine.”
