The chairman of the Parliament Of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili sent a letter on the draft law on Deoligarchization to the President of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, ClaireBazy-Malaurie.

"I would like to inform you that the Committee on Legal Affairs of the Parliament of Georgia has discussed the Law of Georgia on Deoligarchization once again, in accordance with the procedure of the second reading, having incorporated the Venice Commission recommendations.

Hereby, I am writing to request an urgent opinion of the Venice Commission on the mentioned draft law that is attached to this letter.

The urgency of the requested opinion relates to the necessity of the adoption of this law as an important part of the European Union’s 12 recommendations, as one of the prerequisites for granting Georgia the EU candidate country status.

The urgency also stems from the tight schedule of the Parliament;s Spring Session, which comes to the end in June.

Therefore, Madam President, it is my kind request to you to issue the urgent opinion on the abovementioned draft law.

Please, accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration and esteem", - the letter reads.
