Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Secretary General Lazar Comanescu of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).

The meeting emphasized the importance of close cooperation between Georgia and the BSEC and the organization's role in the Black Sea Region. The parties discussed prospects of economic cooperation within the Black Sea Basin, along with the security situation in the region.

The BSEC is an excellent platform for the Black Sea countries to strengthen their economic partnership and internal regional cooperation, the parties emphasized.

Georgia's role as an important transit corridor and regional energy and transport projects were also discussed.

The meeting also underlined that it is important that Georgia, throughout its BSEC chairmanship tenure, is in charge of three key directions: Revival of tourism reeling from the consequences of COVID-19, promotion of innovative resources and technologies, and fostering renewable energy sources.

The meeting also touched on the global challenges arising from the pandemic and commended the Georgian Government's effective response to the adverse effects of the pandemic.
