Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze says he will not intervene in the decision regarding the dismissal of Vano Zardiashvili as head of the Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE), stating that the matter falls under the authority of the Ministry of Economy.
Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze praised Zardiashvili's performance, saying the GSE achieved significant savings and optimized numerous infrastructure projects under his leadership.
"I cannot comment on the decision itself. It will be made by the Ministry of Economy. The only thing I can say is that a great deal was accomplished under Vano Zardiashvili's leadership. We have spoken about this many times - substantial funds were saved, many projects were optimized, allowing the state to implement them more efficiently. I have only positive things to say about him. His work throughout this period was successful. The rest is a matter for the Ministry of Economy, and I will not interfere," Kobakhidze said while visiting Racha.
According to information confirmed to BMG by several sources, Zardiashvili has been removed from his position as GSE Director. Sources also told BMG that the decision is linked to the nationwide power outages on July 24–25. BMG understands that Zardiashvili submitted his resignation on August 31 and is currently on official leave. Earlier today, GNERC Chairman Davit Narmania also confirmed that Zardiashvili has left the post.
