Polish President Andrzej Duda has announced plans to increase Poland's contingent in the EU monitoring mission in Armenia (EUMA), following an assessment of its effectiveness along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
During his visit to Yerevan, President Duda discussed the expansion of Poland's involvement in EUMA with journalists after meeting the mission’s head, Markus Ritter, and Polish personnel already deployed in Armenia. According to Duda, the mission has yielded positive results in stabilizing the border situation, reinforcing the need for a stronger observer presence in the region.
This statement came after President Duda's meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the COP29 conference, where they addressed the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process. Duda remarked that, despite the complexity, progress is being made: “Fortunately, the peace process and the resolution of contentious issues are moving forward. It is very challenging, but the process is underway.”
