Polish President Andrzej Duda, speaking at a joint press conference with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan in Yerevan on November 26, expressed Poland’s readiness to assist Armenia in its integration with the European community.
Ahead of Poland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union, set to begin on January 1, 2025, Duda emphasized his country’s commitment to fostering Armenia’s closer alignment with the European family. He assured that Poland would provide support on any issues of interest to the Armenian side.
Duda paid special attention to the topic of visa liberalization between the EU and Armenia, stating that the matter would be on the agenda during Poland’s presidency. However, he noted that the final decision requires approval from a majority of EU member states, as the European Union operates as a collective body where decisions are made jointly.
Earlier BMG reported that official dialogue on visa liberalization with the European Union began in September this year. Achieving this goal will depend on Armenia implementing substantial reforms in key areas.
The conditions include enhancing the security of travel documents, strengthening border, migration, and asylum controls, combating corruption, and ensuring the protection of fundamental rights related to freedom of movement.
Estimates suggest that, with effective efforts, the Armenian government could meet these obligations within two to four years.
