Political repression and violence are increasing, and this is distancing Georgia further from the European Union, - said Germany's Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, on his X page.

"Sad day in Georgia. ILast weeks all spoke of love and peace at Christmas, a happy New Year and unity on Flag Day. Yet, political repression and violence are on the rise. This moves Georgia further and further away from the European Union. It doesn't have to be this way. It shouldn't be this way," Peter Fischer writes.

For reference, Giorgi Gakharia, the leader of "Gakharia for Georgia," was attacked in Batumi. The assault on the opposition politician occurred last night at the "Sheraton" hotel. Gakharia was taken to the clinic but later left the hospital. According to doctors, Gakharia suffered a broken nasal bone and a concussion.

In addition to the attack on Giorgi Gakharia, there was an altercation at the same hotel with NGO representative Zviad Qoridze. According to Qoridze, he was confronted by members of the "Georgian Dream" party, including Dimitri Samkharaidze and his associates.
