Price for eggs and poultry meat is 15% up in the last three months. Representatives of the sector predict another 10-20% prices surge for the products. According to them, expensive feed due to the Russia-Ukraine war drives up poultry prices in Georgia.
"As you know, Larsi was locked for 20-25 days, there was not enough supplies, which caused the panic among the citizens. Now the panic is reduced and we deeply hope that the harvest will be better compared to the last year. We will definitely have to increase the price, but not from tomorrow," Zurab Uchumbegashvili, chairman of the Poultry Development Association said.
The company Patardzeuli also predicts that egg price will be increased up to 40 tetri within a week.
“No more imports, no more corn on the spot, we pay 1.20 GEL for corn alone and how many supplements do we want?! There is no other way but to increase the price. Now the egg is 30 tetri and its price can go up to 40 tetri. Maybe we will adjust the price within a week," Otar Muchiashvili, the director of Patardzeuli Ltd, told BMG.
According to the representatives of the sector, one citizen of Georgia consumes an average of 200 eggs and 12 to 14 kg of poultry meat a year.
