Pre-trial detention has been ordered for former Director General of the Co-Investment Fund, Giorgi Bachiashvili, in absentia.
The decision was made by Tbilisi City Court Judge Davit Kurtanidze.
As Prosecutor Ani Khakhanashvili explained, Bachiashvili illegally crossed the Georgian border and left Armenia with a Russian passport.
According to Khakhanashvili, there are both factual and formal grounds for using detention as a preventive measure against Bachiashvili.
According to the prosecutor, there are threats of the accused absconding, obstructing the collection of evidence, and committing new crimes.
As Khakhanashvili noted, Bachiashvili was granted bail in two cases, but he violated the bail conditions and committed a new crime.
According to the prosecutor, the persons in criminal connection with Bachiashvili need to be identified.
The lawyer did not agree with the prosecution's motion. As Levan Makharashvili noted, Bachiashvili should have remained without a preventive measure.
