President Met with NATO Special Representative

The Georgian President, Salome Zourabichvili, met with Javier Colomina, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia. The discussion covered topics such as the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration, Georgia’s candidacy for EU membership, NATO-Georgia relations, and the upcoming 2024 elections in Georgia.

Javier Colomina congratulated President Zourabichvili on Georgia’s recent achievement of being granted the EU candidate status. He underscored the significance of the active involvement of state institutions in European integration and stressed the importance of implementing institutional and democratic reforms.

The meeting acknowledged the upcoming parliamentary elections as crucial for Georgia, emphasizing the need for a democratic and fair electoral environment.

Javier Colomina reiterated his unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The President briefed the guest on the ongoing challenges related to the occupation, including the murders of Georgian citizens and human rights violations, urging a strict response from the international community.

The parties also discussed ways to strengthen NATO-Georgia relations, emphasizing the importance of Georgia’s high-level representation at the NATO anniversary summit scheduled in Washington next year.
