Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan outlined key priorities for Armenia’s cooperation with the European Union in 2025 during a joint press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda in Yerevan on November 26. Poland is set to assume the Presidency of the EU Council next year.
According to President Khachaturyan, 2024 marked a significant milestone in Armenia-EU relations, highlighted by the launch of two pivotal programs: the EU Peace Facility’s support initiative and the start of dialogue on visa liberalization for Armenian citizens. The Armenian leader also emphasized plans to deepen security cooperation with the EU.
President Khachaturyan expressed confidence in the successful implementation of these initiatives and highlighted Poland’s consistent support for Armenia’s European integration efforts.
Earlier BMG reported that official dialogue on visa liberalization with the European Union began in September this year. Achieving this goal will depend on Armenia implementing substantial reforms in key areas.
The conditions include enhancing the security of travel documents, strengthening border, migration, and asylum controls, combating corruption, and ensuring the protection of fundamental rights related to freedom of movement.
Estimates suggest that, with effective efforts, the Armenian government could meet these obligations within two to four years.
