The total number of active livestock and poultry slaughterhouses in Georgia in the IV quarter of 2023 were 124, of which 17.7 percent were located in Kakheti region, 16.9 percent in Kvemo Kartli region, 16.1 percent in Shida Kartli region, 14.5 percent in Imereti region, 11.3 percent in SamegreloZemo Svaneti region, 8.9 percent Mtskheta-Mtianeti region and remained 14.5 percent in other regions, - according to the preliminary data of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
According to the survey, 137.4 thousand head of livestock were slaughtered in slaughterhouses in the IV quarter of 2023, of which 35.4 percent were cattle, 58.0 percent - pigs and 4.8 percent - sheep and goats. The share of other livestock (excluding poultry) slaughtered is 1.8 percent. In addition, the number of poultry slaughtered in slaughterhouses during the reporting period amounted to 3 179.2 thousand.
In total 17.0 thousand tons of meet (i.e. slaughtered weight, including poultry meat) was produced by slaughterhouses during the IV quarter of 2023, of which 34.3 percent is beef, 34 percent – poultry, 30.8 percent – pork, 0.8 percent – mutton and goat meat, while the share of
other meet is not negligible.
The service was provided to 11.1 thousand persons, 45.5 percent of which were households. Average monthly number of persons employed in slaughterhouses equaled 1 073 persons.
The average prices of the slaughter services were: 35.7 GEL per cattle, 13.9 GEL per sheep or goat and 30.2 GEL per pig.
