Giorgi Gvarakidze, candidate for Prosecutor General of Georgia, outlined his prosecutorial reform agenda during a presentation to Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee. His priorities include a firm stance against corruption, improved cybercrime enforcement, and a commitment to public transparency and privacy protection.

Transparency and Accountability
Gvarakidze pledged to maintain timely public updates on high-profile criminal cases and improve citizen access to prosecutorial information. “Criminal justice policy and crime prevention are impossible without an informed society,” he said.

He identified corruption in both public and private sectors as a standalone priority, promising:

  • Structural reforms and specialised anti-corruption units
  • Asset recovery mechanisms
  • Enhanced inter-agency cooperation
  • Oversight of state program funding and abuse of state resources
  • Specialised Units for Fraud and Cybercrime

Gvarakidze proposed the creation of:

  • A special anti-fraud division within the Tbilisi prosecutor’s office
  • Enhanced prosecutorial expertise in cybercrime, supported by legal assistance tools, collaboration with service providers, and the adoption of international best practices

He committed to a tough policy against transnational organised crime, and prioritised combatting the illegal dissemination of private information, promising faster prosecutorial responses and better support for victims.

Gvarakidze’s platform underscores a modernised, transparent prosecutorial system with strong institutional frameworks to address emerging threats like digital crime, while reinforcing public trust and legal safeguards.
