On the rocky slope of the Chabua Amiredjibi highway, Saburtalo district of Tbilisi city, for the purpose of prevention, the arrangement of a rockfall netting mesh and cleaning of the rock continues. According to information published on the website of the Public Procurement Agency of Georgia, the cost of the project is GEL 4,424,000.
The risk of rockfalls are on the sections of the road from the intersection of the Chabua Amirejibi and Kakutsa Cholokashvili highways to Mikhail Tamarashvili street. Traffic at the mentioned area has been restricted until 10 August.
“The process of rockfall has intensified recently and the size of fallen rocks has also increased. Consequently, large boulders damaged the integrity of the netting mesh, constructed many years ago, and it can no longer provide security to the area. In the maintenance part, the fallen mass is removed, but intensity of rockfall is obviously increasing. It is necessary to immediately begin a detailed study of this section and, based on the results obtained arrange rockfall netting mesh according to the principle of anchoring,” reads the statement published on the website of the Public Procurement Agency.
