სახალხო დამცველი

The Public Defender of Georgia has responded to the recent events unfolding on the streets of Tbilisi, stating that calls for the overthrow of the constitutional order during a demonstration are unacceptable.

“The Public Defender of Georgia has repeatedly emphasized that peaceful assembly is protected under both international and national standards. It is unacceptable to make calls for the overthrow or violent change of Georgia’s constitutional order during the organization or conduct of an assembly or demonstration. Therefore, it is important that participants express their protest within the limits protected by law.

At the same time, special responsibility lies with the organizers of the rally, who are obliged to ensure that the gathering remains peaceful and refrain from encouraging participants to engage in illegal or violent actions. In cases where force is used, the police must act strictly in accordance with the principles of necessity and proportionality,” the statement reads.
