Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for integrating the economies of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries into the work of BRICS. He made this proposal during a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, as reported by TASS.
"Russia is chairing BRICS this year. Our other countries [from the EAEU] are not members of this association, but there are great opportunities," the president said, specifying that he was referring to China's plans under the "One Belt, One Road" initiative and the BRICS leaders' visit to Kazan.
"I have a big request for you - to explore and work with colleagues, with the Russians, on how we could involve the economies of other countries in our union in joint work with the BRICS countries," Putin addressed Sagintayev.
The Russian leader noted that "there can be many interesting projects and development directions here."
