Regime Offers No Bread, Only Spectacle Ahead of Elections - Khukhashvili

Political analyst Gia Khukhashvili says the Georgian Dream government is staging an anti-corruption "spectacle" to distract from its failures ahead of the elections.

Speaking on TV-program Analitics, Khukhashvili cited a series of recent events—including the arrest of former Deputy Economy Minister Romeo Mikautadze, the suicide attempt of ex-Adjara leader Tornike Rizhvadze, and PM Kobakhidze’s claims about fake public-sector jobs, as evidence of a manufactured campaign.

“The government can't offer bread, so it puts on a show,” he said. “These anti-corruption measures are not real, they're for appearances. The entire system is corrupt.”

Khukhashvili argued that the government’s approach mimics Russian-style tactics: avoiding legal procedures, targeting individuals selectively, and using state media to spin narratives.

“If this were a real anti-corruption fight, there would be proper investigations and court decisions, not criminal harassment and public shaming,” - Khukhashvili said.
