Parliament will approve the bill on merging the Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Infrastructure during the next parliamentary session week, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili told BMG.
According to Papuashvili, the government withdrew the previously submitted bill because the proposed changes alone were not sufficient to accommodate the new initiative. The government will resubmit a complete legislative package incorporating all related amendments, after which Parliament is expected to approve the merger next session week.
Papuashvili also said the planned position of State Minister for Regional Policy will no longer be created.
As a result, the government has removed the issue from its agenda. Papuashvili said the government, through the Prime Minister and the newly consolidated ministry, will itself be responsible for implementing and coordinating regional and municipal policy.
