According to Armenia's Statistical Committee, in 2024, the average salary for employed women is nearly 40% lower than that of men. The total number of employed individuals in the economy has reached 776,814, with an average monthly salary of approximately $720.
As reported by abnews.am, the gender pay gap is most prominent in the IT sector, where men earn an average of $2,600, while women earn around $1,540. A similar disparity is observed in healthcare and manufacturing.
The country’s largest employment sector is trade, which has 130,508 workers with nearly equal gender distribution: 67,083 men and 63,425 women. However, a significant pay gap persists here as well, with men earning about $650 per month compared to women’s $407.
The education sector ranks second in employment, with 125,639 workers, predominantly women (97,035). In manufacturing, which employs 91,365 people, men earn approximately $753, while women earn around $424.
Construction is the only sector where women earn slightly more than men: $638 versus $633, respectively. This sector employs 42,174 people.
Overall, the average salary for men in Armenia stands at $900, whereas women earn around $547. This disparity is particularly stark in high-paying sectors such as IT and financial services.
The three largest employment sectors—trade, education, and manufacturing—provide jobs for over 347,000 people, making up a significant portion of Armenia's workforce.
