According to the 2027 draft state budget, GEL 15.5 million will be allocated for school uniforms next year.

Against the backdrop of the introduction of mandatory school uniforms in public schools, Educational Resources LLC, a company operating under the Ministry of Education, signed a contract in May with China’s Glory Textile Industry LLC to purchase the uniforms.

Under the procurement agreement, the ministry ordered a total of 1,801,000 school uniforms worth GEL 45,658,840.

It is therefore unclear why the budget allocation is being reduced. BM.GE will contact the relevant ministry with questions on the matter.

According to the budget allocations, the total budget for the Educational Resources Provision Program will amount to GEL 158.2 million.

Wearing school uniforms became mandatory this year for students in grades one through six at public schools. The change is part of the “education reform” announced by the Georgian Dream government, and the initiative belongs personally to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
