In the last five years, the share of solar energy in Armenia's total energy production has grown from virtually zero to 13%, stated Gnel Sanosyan, Armenia's Minister of Territorial Administration and Energy.
"As a result of several programs aimed at developing renewable energy, Armenia has significantly increased the production of electricity from renewable sources in recent years. Specifically, the share of production at solar stations has risen from nearly zero to approximately 13% of total electricity production over the past five years," Gnel Sanosyan announced during the "Energy Transition and Entrepreneurship" (ETES) forum held on July 22-23 on the shores of Lake Sevan. The event was organized by Shtigen Group in collaboration with the Startup Armenia Foundation.
Seda Shaginyan, a member of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, emphasized the importance of demonopolizing the sector, giving consumers the ability to choose their electricity provider. "The main achievement is the demonopolization of the sector. This means that today, consumers in our country have the opportunity to choose from whom to buy electricity, on what terms, and at what rates," explained Shaginyan.
Hayk Shekyan, the founder and director of Shtigen Group, highlighted the significance of such events in strengthening cross-sectoral connections not only in Armenia but also in the region.
"The initiative of the private sector is particularly important in this matter because it is the business representatives who build and develop these bridges with each other, step by step contributing to the formation of energy independence," noted the head of Shtigen Group, which is also represented in Georgia and is a member of GREDA, the Georgian Renewable Energy Development Association.
