We heard the assessments of top representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, who praised Georgia’s commitment to preventing sanctions evasion, the Georgian Minister of Economy, Levan Davitashvili, stated following the Cabinet meeting on Monday.
The Economy Minister responded to a journalist’s question regarding allegations made by Michael McFaul, the coordinator of the sanctions group established by the Ukraine President. McFaul stated he possessed solid evidence of sanctions circumvention, potentially involving well-known individuals.
Davitashvili deemed speculations on this topic irresponsible.
“You heard the assessments of top representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, who praised Georgia’s commitment to preventing sanctions evasion. I think we have to rely on such official statements. Georgia has shown what a reliable partner it is for the West in preventing sanctions evasion,” he said.
The minister pointed out that in some instances, opposition forces manage to mislead partners.
“It is unfortunate that opposition forces in Georgia act against their own country’s interests. These actions mislead foreign partners and individuals. However, it is critical to rely on official communication. Georgia deserves appreciation in this regard,” he added.
The minister urged the authors of such statements to provide specific facts for clarification, reiterating that Georgia has received no evidence of sanctions violations.
