SSSG Arrests 28 Individuals Across 9 Regions Of Georgia on Corruption Charges

Officers of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) arrested 28 individuals through complex operative measures across 9 regions of Georgia in 14 criminal cases, including bribe-taking, document forgery, misappropriation of money and land plots, and corruption charges and launched criminal proceedings against the detainees.

Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency Emzar Gagnidze announced at the briefing that 3 individuals have been arrested and 11 others charged in connection with 5 separate criminal cases involving the fraudulent misappropriation of state funds within the framework of state procurement.

The cases involve reconstruction of roads, public schools and potable water systems in Tsalka, Akhaltsikhe and Tetritskaro municipalities.

Charges have been brought against 7 individuals in three criminal cases involving the fraudulent acquisition of state-owned land plots, abuse of official authority, and official forgery.

Three individuals were detained for taking bribes from Georgian and foreign citizens for the arrangement of beekeeping farms and eateries in Lanchkhuti and Tetritskaro municipalities.

Four individuals have been arrested in connection with 3 criminal cases involving the production and use of forged official documents, as well as commercial bribery committed as part of a group.

The Agency, based on court orders, conducted covert investigative actions resulting in the acquisition of audio and video evidence documenting the criminal acts.

“The Anti-Corruption Agency continues its work to detect and prevent any corrupt offences. Hereby we note that, within the framework of the fight against corruption, focus is made on assessing and eliminating all types of corruption risks. Ongoing daily work is being carried out to minimize corruption level,” Gagnidze stated.
