Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze said the state has saved tens of millions of lari by reviewing socially vulnerable families. The number of subsistence allowance recipients fell by nearly 140,000 from January to August, reaching about 570,000.
More than 80,000 families have been reviewed, compared with 184,000 registered as eligible when the process began. Sarjveladze said the verification, resumed in February after a pandemic-era moratorium, will continue as an ongoing process.
He said reviews may change families’ social scores and eligibility as their financial circumstances change. While exact savings cannot yet be calculated, Sarjveladze said the state expects to save several tens of millions of lari after the database is fully updated.
According to the Social Service Agency, allowance recipients fell by 6,546 in August from July. Of the total, 153,258 are involved in the state employment program, which ended in 2026, although those who have not completed their four-year period remain in the system.
