Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has nominated Tamaz Borashvili as a candidate for head of Georgia’s State Security Service (SSSG). Borashvili currently serves as deputy head of the SSSG.
Speaking at a briefing alongside Kobakhidze at the Government Administration, Borashvili said he has been serving Georgia’s national interests for more than 20 years. He thanked the Prime Minister for his confidence and for nominating him for the position.
“If Parliament expresses its confidence, I will try to begin protecting our country’s interests with double the energy. It will be a great honor for me to hold this position,” Borashvili said.
Borashvili also thanked former SSSG chief Geka Geladze for his leadership and wished him success in his new challenges. Geladze announced his resignation on September 14. Borashvili’s candidacy must now be approved by Parliament, which appoints the head of the SSG for a six-year term.
