A new ski resort is set to be constructed in Betania, Vake district. The project will feature a 500-metre ski track, with comprehensive renovation of the existing infrastructure to support it.
The resort will include upgraded outdoor lighting, with specialised lamps installed to facilitate night skiing. Additionally, a modern cable car, an artificial snowmaking system, and a moving carpet for beginners will be introduced.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze and Vice Mayor Giorgi Tkemaladze reviewed the plans, which are to be realised by the Tbilisi Transport and Urban Development Agency.
“We are announcing the realisation of another significant project for our capital. Years ago, there was a ski slope in this area, but now we are undertaking a new development. The first step involves earthworks on the slope to prepare for the ski track. The area needs to be expanded and properly organised. There is also a neighbouring slope that could, in future, host a half-kilometre ski track. Our immediate focus is on revitalising the existing slope, installing a modern cable car, night lighting, and artificial snow systems. We are actively collaborating with the Mountain Trail Agency, whose expertise is invaluable. They also proposed creating an artificial surface that would enable skiing in other seasons. The infrastructure will include cafés, bars, and other amenities,” Kaladze explained.
The initiative aims to promote winter sports, boost tourism, and develop recreational infrastructure near Tbilisi. The resort is expected to generate employment opportunities for locals and stimulate economic and social activity in the area.
