Tbilisi Transport Company has launched an international market survey to estimate costs for the 5.2-kilometer extension of Metro Line 1 and the construction of two new stations. The survey, published on the Public Procurement Agency’s website, will determine the approximate cost in hundreds of millions of dollars.

The project includes two new stations: one towards Gldani (2.2 km) and one towards Varketili (3 km). It will be implemented using the Design-Build method, meaning that the contractor will be responsible for both designing and constructing the stations, including tunnels, escalators, vestibules, and passenger platforms for five-car trains.

Notably, the current survey reduces the experience requirement for bidders: companies or subcontractors must have completed projects worth at least $50 million over the last three years, down from $100 million in the previous survey in April 2025, which was unsuccessful. Bidders must also demonstrate experience in designing and constructing at least two metro lines or ten stations, including escalator tunnels and installations.

Tbilisi Metro currently operates two lines with 23 stations, totaling 27.3 kilometers. The GldaniVarketili line has 16 stations, while the State University line has seven. The market survey deadline is set for February 27, 2025. The city hall has not yet issued an official comment on the project.
