Tbilisi Municipal Inspectorate has completely renewed its ageing and costly vehicle fleet, with the city acquiring 50 Toyota vehicles to support the service responsible for maintaining urban order across the capital.
The new cars, fuel-efficient and environmentally compliant, meeting the Euro-6 emissions standard, were unveiled to the public by Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, alongside the Head of the Municipal Inspectorate, Gogi Chikovani.
“I am pleased to present the new vehicles of the Tbilisi Municipal Inspectorate, the agency that serves as one of the principal pillars in upholding order, enforcing the law, and ensuring safety across the city. Order is not a restriction; order is the comfort, security, and freedom of every citizen. That is precisely why the effective work of the Municipal Inspectorate means a better, more orderly, and safer environment for every resident of Tbilisi. The Inspectorate’s staff serve the city around the clock, every single day, to preserve order, enforce the law, and make Tbilisi a safer and more organised place,” Mayor Kaladze declared.
The Mayor also noted that some significant steps have been taken in recent years: legislation has been tightened, enforcement mechanisms strengthened, staff have undergone specialist training, the material and technical base has been entirely overhauled, and modern technologies have been introduced.
“A new division has been added to the service, a motorcycle inspectorate. The fleet is now fully renewed. Outdated, high-running-cost vehicles have been replaced with economical, eco-friendly transport meeting the Euro-6 standard. This renewal aims to enable the Tbilisi Municipal Inspectorate to operate uniformly and effectively across every district and neighbourhood of the capital, including recreational and forestry zones, responding swiftly to violations, suppressing them, and preventing them from occurring in the first place,” the Mayor stated.
Kaladze also extended his thanks to every member of the Inspectorate for the vital work they carry out day in, day out, largely out of public sight, as well as to the representatives of the vehicle supplier.
“My thanks also go to the people of Tbilisi for their trust, because everything we do, we do for our city and for each of its citizens. Our task is not simply to develop infrastructure. Our task is to instil order, fairness, and accountability throughout the city. Tbilisi must be a city where the law works, where citizens are protected, and where progress is felt in everyday life,” the Mayor added.
Gogi Chikovani also addressed those gathered at the event, expressing his gratitude to the Mayor, the City Council, and representatives of Parliament for their support.
“Our service’s fleet has been fully renewed, which is of enormous importance for our effective and prompt operations. Before this renewal, we had already implemented a series of tangible measures to enhance the responsiveness and efficiency of the Municipal Inspectorate, ensuring it is well-equipped to address every challenge within its remit. Today, as a result of those measures, our service is more mobile than ever, we have geographical coverage in every neighbourhood, and we can respond swiftly across the board, whether that means tackling violations in the construction sector, protecting the capital’s appearance, verifying compliance with planning permissions, or a great deal else besides. Our inspectors, architects, lawyers and surveyors work around the clock to both suppress violations in all these areas and ensure they are prevented,” Chikovani stated, also thanking every member of staff for their exceptional dedication, sense of responsibility, and conscientiousness.
The overhaul of the Tbilisi Municipal Inspectorate’s fleet is aimed at ensuring the uniform and effective delivery of order-maintenance operations across every district and neighbourhood of the capital, including forestry and landscape recreational zones, as well as guaranteeing a prompt and decisive response to violations of urban order, their timely suppression and prevention.
The Tbilisi Municipal Inspectorate is the municipal body responsible for urban order, conducting round-the-clock monitoring and inspection across the capital in a wide range of areas, including construction activity and safety; the protection of state and municipal property, the environment, cultural heritage, and the city’s visual appearance; the regulation of trade, advertising, and noise pollution; and the verification and commissioning of completed construction projects in accordance with planning conditions and legislation. Within its remit, the Inspectorate not only identifies violations and responds to them in accordance with the law but also imposes financial penalties on offenders, restores any damage caused to the city, and implements special measures to prevent the unlawful seizure of state and municipal land.
The presentation of the renewed fleet was attended by Tbilisi Vice-Mayor Giorgi Tkemaladze, the Mayor’s deputies, and representatives of the City Council and Parliament.
