Tbilisi’s Rustaveli Avenue will have a revised traffic scheme following its rehabilitation, including new traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, bicycle lanes and a dedicated bus lane. City Hall says the project is expected to be completed in November.
The changes will improve connections between intersecting streets and introduce five passenger drop-off and pick-up locations. New pedestrian crossings will be installed at intersections with Sandro Inashvili, Aleksandre Chavchavadze and Revaz Lagidze, and Giorgi Chanturia streets.
The updated scheme will allow additional turning movements at several intersections, including Kakabadze and Mikheil Javakhishvili streets, Vano Sarajishvili Street, and the junctions with Chavchavadze, Lagidze and Chanturia streets. U-turns near the olive tree on Inashvili Street will be permitted only for municipal transport.
Lesia Ukrainka Street will become one-way, while access and turning options will change at the intersections with Archil Jorjadze, Zurab Chichinadze and April 9 streets. The changes are intended to improve traffic flow and pedestrian comfort along the avenue.
