Developing Telavi Airport and railway connections could improve transport accessibility and strengthen Kakheti’s tourism appeal, says Shalva Eristavi, founder of Holiday Inn Telavi.
He believes better connections would make the region more convenient for both domestic and international visitors, although he does not expect the projects to transform tourism overnight.
Eristavi also questioned whether the planned airport construction budget would be sufficient given current building costs.
The tender for Telavi Airport’s passenger terminal was won by BuildKings LLC, which offered GEL 11.65 million. Construction is expected to take no more than 21 months after the contract is signed.
