The 12 points of the European Union are a big program, a great task and actually a challenge to Georgian politics, says German Ambassador to Georgia Hubert Knirsch.

“I understand that this is difficult for some parties, many parties do not have a tradition of working with each other and this is what the European Union hopes to see in Georgia,” he went on, hoping that “many parties will find the courage and the strength to proceed to this kind of cooperation and if you want to be a pro-European party you should give consideration to these 12 points.”

Asked about ex-GD MP Mikheil Kavelashvili’s letter to the US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, Hubert Knirsch said, “this is the type of unnecessary quarrel that occupies the Georgian media very much and actually distracts from the most important points which have to be addressed right now.”

“These points come with the 12 points of the European Union and other challenges such as the labour market which we re focusing on today and is not useful for the media to dwell on quarrels in between Georgian politicians, politicians and diplomats, this is not actually useful,” he stated.

In a letter, MP Kavelashvili said, “no Russian soft forces can undermine the reputation of America in Georgia as your statements and silence that may be perceived by the Georgian people as an attempt to bring the National Movement back to the authority.”

In response, Ambassador Degnan claimed she couldn’t even finish reading the letter, saying “that letter was so full of lies and conspiracy theories that I really couldn’t even finish reading it; and it sounded really unhinged to me.”
