The different (exceptional) rules and terms are to be established for the submission of information concerning the placement of the medical warning on the packaging of the filtered and non-filtered cigarettes as of September 1, 2022, as stipulated under the Bill on Tobacco Control, discussed by the Budget and Finance Committee yesterday.
According to the Deputy Finance Minister, Mamuka Baratashvili, the tax-payers shall be entitled to, as of September 1, 2022, in the form of an exception, ensure the placement of the medical warnings on the external transparent packaging of the tobacco products in the form of the stickers on the territory of the Customs Storage of Georgia.
“The medical warning on each packaging may not meet the requirements established under the Law on Tobacco Control, which is considered admissible. Besides, the printed warning on the packaging may be substituted with a sticker. At that, the attachment of a sticker on each packaging can be ensured on the Customs Storage territory”, - he stated.
As the reporter noted, the legal changes are entailed with the military actions in Ukraine. “80% of the cigarettes are being imported from Ukraine but due to the military actions, the import of the tobacco product in the hereof form appears to be impossible”, - the reporter added. The Committee approved the Bill.
