After the decision of the European Commission, Georgia was added to the list of countries from which the exports of snails to the EU market have been allowed, as a result, the exports of snails from Georgia have increased significantly. This was made possible by the EU 2022/34 regulation of December 22, 2021.
In the first year, i.e. in 2022, 44 tons of snails worth USD 263 thousand were exported from Georgia. This year was a record in this regard. In the first 11M2023, USD 1.2 million worth of snails were exported. In total, 137 tons of products were exported.
As for the exporting markets, Georgian snails are sold only in Italy and France.
According to January-November 2023, the largest volume of exports was made to France. 135 tons of snails worth USD 1.2 million were exported to this market in 11 months. As for Italy, only 1 ton [$7 thousand] of snails was sent to this country.
